Politicians catering to mis-informed public opinion are ready to take away your rights as a gun owner. And you are being urged to "get political" as a way to protect yourself.
This is good advice if you join the right Party. It's poor advice if you join a Party with a view to changing its policies. Their Leaders will think you are endorsing their policies rather than trying to change them.
How do you make the right choice? It's simple: Join a Party that will fight for your right to own firearms. One that follows principles instead of opinion polls. In brief, a Party that doesn't need to be "converted". A Party which is consistent and logical whether it's civil liberties or economic issues. There is only one such Party: the Libertarian Party of Canada.
Don't be misled by politicians talking about "responsible" gun ownership or "reasonable" gun laws. These are the same compromising words government has used for years to erode your rights.
Before supporting any political Party, get a clear statement on their firearms policy from the Leader-in writing! Then hope he or she and those that follow them will keep their word.
In case your are not familiar with our position on gun ownership, here it is, briefly stated:
Libertarians believe law-abiding citizens have an inherent right to own firearms. We believe that government must not infringe this right directly or indirectly through regulation and control. We view confiscation of firearms by government to be theft of private property that cannot be justified in a free and democratic society.
This has been our position for over twenty years because it is based on our statement of principles. Our Party will not accept any compromise on these principles by anyone!
You do have choices for political action. You can try to convert those who consider your rights expendable when opinion polls or referenda dictate. Or you can support the Libertarian Party where your rights as individuals cannot be compromised.
