Only Provincial governments have the power of "direct" taxation, which they illegally gave away in something called the Tax Rental Agreement. This is not just an obscure interpretation of a section of the Constitution. Apparantly, the Supreme Court handed down a decision in 1950 which reaffirmed this fact. At that time, they gave the federal government 12 years to get out of the income tax business for good. They also stated in their judgment that the provinces may NOT assign tax collection to the feds, and the feds cannot accept such offer from the provinces (ie the Tax Rental Act is illegal and should be struck down). A man by the name of Murray Gouvreau was one of the speakers last night. He hasn't paid federal income tax since 1978. He has been taken to court, but never convicted of any offence relating to taxes. Murray has appeared in talk shows across Canada spreading his message - that we need to stop paying illegal taxes and force the Federal government to raise funds in a different way. Murray advocates a return to the constitution whereby the federal government would create money rather than the banks. I feel that this information is EXTREMELY important, and I recommend that we make this information known to as many people as possible. As Libertarians, we've always said that taxation is theft. Now maybe we can prove it! Comments? Suggestions? Mark
